FYI you can get 530 of the Costco-brand version of these tablets for $8 (only available in-warehouse I believe).

If Sugar is a concern, CVS has these available in their housebrand/generic form without sugar for about the same price.

Yeah and pretty sure they're all just calcium carbonate and some sugar/dye.

Are they just as effective? Tums just help take the edge off but I've never found them to completely eliminate my heartburn.

All of these tablet style antacids have CaCO3 as the active ingredient, but the excipients and other components are likely different. For example:

This product: CaCO3 (1000mg), adipic acid, corn starch, FD&C blue #1 lake, FD&C red #40 lake, FD&C yellow #5 (tartrazine) lake, FD&C yellow #6 lake, flavors, mineral oil, sodium polyphosphate, sucrose, talc

Costco brand: CaCO3 (1000mg), adipic acid, corn starch, crospovidone, dextrose, FDC blue 1 lake, FDC red 40 lake, flavors, magnesium stearate, maltodextrin, sucrose, talc

So, same active ingredient in the same amount, some of the components are the same, some different.

With heartburn, it's tricky - different people have different triggers. There are some common ones (acidic stuff, spicy food, etc) but it's really a YMMV thing. For me, tomatoes (acidity) are bad but I can eat spicy food no issue.

I got these last time they were on sale but they are so gross and chalky. Spend the few extra bucks and get the chewy ones. They taste much better and don't leave your mouth feeling gritty.

Its just calcium. These are more of a bandaid fix for people with occasional heartburn due to knowingly eating stuff that is very acidic. If you have heartburn daily, or its not related to certain foods youll want to try actual medication for it like Omeprazole/Prilosec

These things are heaven sent. I sometimes indulge in a pizza or 2 for lunch (guilty pleasure of mine) and if I don't use these, the rest of my day is horrible

Agreed, although I'd point out that long-term use of proton-pump inhibitors have been shown to lead to all kinds of nasty health conditions/diseases, including gastric cancer and stroke, although cause-and-effect is sometimes not clear cut..

After the tums chewy ones and the smooth type. I can't use the old crunchy ones.
