Why not go for a third for parity and 20TB of storage? I assume if it's off-site you'll have another copy somewhere, but double the storage for 50% more seems like a good trade-off.

Lukewarm I guess. Still hope the 18-20TB go under 300.

I've seen these WD Red and WD Gold be around the same price recently. I know Gold is more "enterprise" level, but does anyone have a good comparison of the pros and cons of gold vs red models? Both seem to be for NAS.

1st quote asked what to do with extra 2-3TB drives
2nd quote said to use them for important data to have off site in cold storage
3rd quote didn't follow the conversation from 1st quote to 2nd quote and gave suggestion about buying a 3rd drive 10TB drive which wasn't relevant to the original statement.

felt the need to clear that up.

What is the effect if I start replacing my 4x3TB synology NAS with 10TB one by one over time? Will I not see a gain until all have been replaced?

can you just use these drives as a secondary drive in your pc? Not in a NAS setup.

Dang. Just bought 8 of these a week ago at $214.99 thinking that was as low as they'd reliably sit at for awhile.

Trying Newegg's price match form to recoup a bit but not optimistic.

UPDATE: They did actually refund me the full $35 on four of the eight drives I purchased (this current deal has a limit 4), so anyone who recently picked up these drives should give that a shot.

Is it for funsies or function? I bought a USB easy store as a temporary Plex repo until I could save up for a nas. After a while, I couldn't justify the cost of more drives in a nas config since the one USB drive was handling my internal and external sessions without an issue. I am not trying to sway you one way or another, just mildly curious.
