I'm almost about to pull the trigger. But I'd hate to feel screwed if a newer model will be out this year.
That's a very unlikely scenario given shortages of components worldwide still being a thing. Perhaps you're further away from pulling the trigger than you think.

They just released this console….no new Nintendo console will be out soon…also this won't be on discount during Black Friday…maybe a free regular online membership included (not the nintendo64 one) and 128gb micro sd if that's worth it to some, or the same v2 Mario kart that's been the black Friday special the past 3 years.
Nintendo switch has held its value over the past 5 years…this oled will sell for $300 whenever the new switch comes out in 2/3 years
I want one so bad! Mainly for the screen. But it's hard to justify replacing my hacked day one Switch that is still going strong...
I already bought the OLED when it launched. the colors just make the games look better than typical HDTVs (if they're not OLED). I haven't found the time to hack my launch Switch, but it would be nice to have both. having a modded Switch is kind of a better route than paying a lot for the N64/Genesis premium Nintendo Online on an official Switch. You can't keep those retro games after the service is done (or the console cycle is done)
I was bouncing back and forth between Switch OLED and Steam Deck. Was getting impatient waiting for Steam Deck to drop (plus there's a long wait list), so ended up sticking with OLED (which came out in October). Absolutely love it. Its been out around 5 years, so there's a nice, big catalogue of games, that are rather affordable. You might still pay premium for their flagship games but found Breath of the Wild for $26 used at GME, Luigi's Mansion 3 for $30, and a plethora of indie and older games on sale on the E-Shop. The portability is a game changer, being able to take to work and GF's house. Handheld is 720p and 30 frames but the screen is nice and bright and the colors are lush and vivid. I do wish games like Destiny 2 and Elden Ring were available on Nintendo, because I'd like to play them on the go, but they would look better on my Xbox anyway. I will eventually get a Steam Deck, but still want to see how well the hardware and OS run.
Any suggestions on whether to own games or get the nintendo membership?
Wym? The Nintendo membership only has snes nes, sega and n64 games that u do not/will not own… they don't sell them digitally…the Nintendo membership isn't like gamepass where u can play Mario oydessy or Mario kart 8 deluxe u have to buy those either digitally or physically….
Physical games like the Nintendo switch have held value. Botw still regularly sells for $40 used game is 5 years old…Mario kart 8 will probably be $50 used once the booster pass comes out also soon to be 5 years old.

The only advantage is if you are using the handheld as thats where the OLED screen would make it more crispy clear as opposed playing on console.
