They were already earning record profits. The excuse of inflation is meant to distract from the opportunistic price hike.
Remember when they said it was transitory and expected people to believe it?
For anyone looking for more than the limit of 2, or interested in a lower price with CC offers or trade in, might be interested in the Best Buy deal:

Can you set up RAID1 on these giant external drives or is there any other type of data backup for them? I couldn't imagine feeling safe storing 14gb worth of data on one of these without a backup.

Looks like I'm canceling my B&H order now, and using my 5% off at Amazon.

No difference as far as the actual hard drive inside. Easystore is the Best Buy version of the same drive. Different enclosure and USB to SATA adapter inside.

These drives will fail eventually. I don't think they were meant for long term 24/7 365. Your better off with NAS & NAS drives.

I got one of these from Best Buy about 6 months ago, for $10 less. Love it. I haven't seen it below $200 since then. I will happily pay that for another one. It's on almost all the time as our main server backup, but goes to sleep. And it has no issues. It takes awhile to come out of sleep, but it's not a problem. I get about 100-110 MBPs sustained writes over my network. About the same read throughput (network limited).

These are NAS drives. They're white label Reds if you shuck them. You just don't get a warranty if you do.

RAID is never a backup. Depending on what OS you're running, you can use something like rsync to automatically backup one drive from another. There's also a plethora of utility applications that will do this.

You don't think NAS drives will eventually fail, too? I've had standard consumer drives running 24/7 365 for decades with no problems. I personally believe that NAS drives are mostly marketing hype. Enterprise drives are a different story.

I'm not sure where you're getting this. They haven't put RED or NAS drives in these enclosures in years. You would have to find some very old store stock for that to be the case.

I see 2 people who (disliked) believe the current administration lies that inflation and paying more for EVERYTHING is a good thing. I'm sorry you drank the kool-aid.

Other posters have already shucked and checked them. I suppose maybe they're not all NAS, but a bunch of people have said they are. I didn't need a NAS, so I didn't check mine, but it's not hard to find people saying that's what they found.
