Not sure what you mean. HSS is just a low carbon heat treated steel alloy. I don't believe there is any sort of spec they "have" to follow to the letter, so obviously some are better than others, but generally speaking HSS will be harder and more heat resistant than other higher carbon alloys. Of course there is no way to know for sure if they're just using the term loosely especially on these cheaper bits, but I doubt they'd outright lie about it.

Unless you're willing to sink a couple hundred into some really good bits, just plan on picking up a set during these deals once or twice a year, that's what I do. No point in sharpening bits or spending a ton on top of the line ones that can get lost or broken (or more commonly, walk away on you). But on the flipside you want it to last more than one use too so I don't go bottom of the barrel like harbor freight etc.

When I see a good deal on bits I'll usually grab some, the ones you can tell are really on the cheap side I'll use for wood etc and the better ones like the $10 dewalts I'll use for metal, but with slow speed and frequent oiling. As they dull or break, just swap in the next set. I do like the sets that come with 2 of the smaller sizes as those are most likely to break. Hopefully the 21 piece HSS dewalt set goes on sale again soon for $15 as I'm ready for a refresh of several sizes.

Have to look at drill bits like a grinding or cut off wheel. You don't want a dirt cheap one that is going to break or wear down super fast, but it is a consumable item that is going to wear out regardless of how much you pay, so have to find the sweet spot between price and longevity. I'd say any of the dewalts would fit that bill but I'd lean toward the black and gold (or black oxide if you can find them in a local store) over these.

The FP deal are HSS bits (not black oxide anymore but not necessarily critical, the underlying metal is the most important part). These are just titanium coated hardened steel, not HSS and definitely not solid titanium at this price.

Thanks to globalists (who don't care about anyone or anything except their own ability to make money) and specifically wall St. firms (profits over people all the time), it's hard to find anything not made in china these days. When the US is destroyed, they'll take their money and move on to a new country to decimate. And no, this is not about the evils of capitalism, it's simply the truth about unchecked, ,unmitigated, and unbridled greed.

That said, you can get these at Lowes right now for the same price, and the the black & gold 14 pc. set is $9.98 if you want it.

So i went to walmart the other day and found some plastic bowls which i thought were def made in china.

Turns out it was made right in the US of A. And the price is comparable to a chinese bowl too. I mean the sea shipping issue is probably good for the US manufacturers
