Golly. That's a good deal for such a capable PC. I'm trying to come up with a reason to buy one. Maybe for my makeshift golf simulator

Powerful CPU with DDR5 RAM and 2.5g ethernet connection? This is an awesome deal. Definitely should reinstall windows before using, though.
ETA: didn't notice it was a refurb. I assume the discount is compared with the new price.

I want something to run my Plex account. That isn't a 10-year-old PC that I'm using now... This could solve that problem.

At this price point it makes nearly all N100, N150, N95, N97 mini PCs irrelevant. The performance difference between the 7640HS and 8745H isn't worth the extra $150+ IMHO.

Be aware of the limitations of the UM Slim series of mini PCs from Minisforum:
  • WiFi/BT card doesn't work with Linux (no driver support).
  • USB3.2 Gen2 ports are on the front (eyesore if you connect wired devices to it).
  • Will likely come with a single stick of DDR5 4800 memory which limits the performance.
  • Need to use a free tool [youtu.be] to set CPU/GPU to max TDP settings to get full performance.
These limitations can be addressed by replacing WiFi/BT card if you need Linux support, using the USB4 port in the rear with a USB3.2 adapter/splitter if you want to avoid the eyesore when using USB3.2 devices, and buying a single 16GB DDR5 memory stick to get the full performance from the CPU/GPU if your machine comes with a single memory stick.

They had units listed on their website for several days. But at this price point with the coupon code they'll sell quick. Getting this much CPU/GPU power under $200 is a crazy deal. Thankfully I was able to get my order in before they sold out.

It mentions in the description 2x8 for ram. I hope it's one 16gb though. I'd be happy to add a 16gb stick to make it 32

Refurbished listing doesn't specify. Reports from reddit and YT reviews indicate that the majority of the units come with a single stick of memory. Personally, I want it to come with a single 16GB stick so it's cheaper to upgrade to 32GB. The memory is shared with the iGPU so 16GB really isn't enough for anyone that plans to use if for gaming or runs lots of programs at the same time. It's recommended to set the iGPU so it uses 8GB of memory if one plans to use it for gaming. That leaves very little memory left for the OS and the game.

7640HS is better because it uses the Zen 4 and RDNA 3 architecture and is more efficient. The 6900HX (Zen 3 and RDNA 2) is a tiny bit slower in single core performance but slightly faster in multi core performance, single digit percentage so not a huge difference. They are similar with regards to GPU performance with some games running slightly faster on either CPU. With that said, if you can score a 6800HX that's $40+ cheaper than this deal then that's worth getting. The sweet spot price wise for a mini PC is between $150-300. Once you start getting close to or over the $400 price point then a desktop PC becomes a better option unless one has a specific use case for a mini PC.
