All-Clad is known for it's highly-regarded made-in-USA stainless-clad cookware (yes, I know, they make handles and lids in China now), but these days they seem desperate to compete with every other cookware company, with non-stick lines, anodized aluminum lines, bakeware, appliances, utensils... that's what you get when you establish a highly regarded brand and then sell it to a conglomerate. They abuse and dilute the brand. Now they just introduced this cast iron line less than a year ago, and they don't produce it in their factories, and it's imported from china and seems targeted at a value price point. For some reason, they decided not to make the lid out of cast iron, which takes away a lot of the functional value of a cast iron dutch oven. If you're only using it for braising, then I suppose the steel lid is ok, but for anything that involves going in the oven, you're losing some of the benefits of cast iron. I would definitely not use this for bread baking.
