I have only used the Instax (Polaroid-style) cameras - not these medallion-sized mini-cameras. I have seen these in stores and they don't have printers built-in, so I assume that they are intended primarily for use with the Instax standalone printer (e.g., https://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-I...B0D826GXQ3) via a smartphone. It's basically a toy camera that you connect to your smartphone to take cute (probably not very good) photos. It's certainly novelty over functionality - but some people might get $30 worth of enjoyment out of it.

I think my Walmart has some of these marked down to half this price. I had no interest in it and was wondering if the instant film cameras would eventually go on clearance instead.

That's pretty much what it is. You can also just skip the print altogether and save the file to your phone. It has a 50 picture capacity without an SD card, so it's a great value for giving (older) kids a toy that asks them to compose photos.
