It will never be as sharp as like a German steel though, and like I said, it won't hold what sharpness it does have as well.
Honestly, for the people that these knives would probably work for they need like 2 or 3 of these knives, the rest will just sit in the block and never be used. For the people that need a better knife, but not a chef quality knife, something like a Mercer chef knife is like $40, and would last the rest of their life with less care than this knife.
If you're buying it to beat it up and throw it away, you can probably find something cheaper that's about the same, and only buy the one or two knives you'll ever use to make them MUCH cheaper than this.
