This is cool however the seniors I know exclusively shop on Fridays at Kroger family stores for 4x fuel points. They could offer a discount at checkout any day of the week.

edit: on closer reading of the ad it only states that it is starting on Wednesday September 3rd so it might be an everyday thing after that but most likely it is just on that particular day and then it's gone.

I think this is just one specific day.

Awesome news; I will avoid Kroger on 9/3 as the boomers will be attempting to use self check out aka failing and having to have that 1 person check them out on their own.

I've done this math before, the 5% is actually marginally better, deal-wise, in many cases:

- Fuel points are worth approximately 1 cent each. This comes from the assumption that you always buy at least 10 gallons of gas when redeeming points. Every 100 points you redeem at the pump knocks 10 cents per gallon off the price, and if you're taking ten gallons that's a $1 savings. 100 points for $1 is ~$0.01 per point.
- If you take more gas, the savings will go up obviously, so scale this by the average # of gallons you take.
- Getting 4x points on Friday means you're getting 4 points per dollar spent, which is a 4% return. ($1 spent = 4 points = $0.04 net discount at hte pump = 4%, again assuming 10 gallons.)
- If you take MORE gas - in this case 12.5 gallons - you can push the pump discount up to the 5% senior discount OP mentioned. But for 10 gallons, the 5% discount at the register is better than the 4% discount at the pump.

Also, remember that Kroger already knocks 3 cents per gallon off just for scanning a Kroger Card - no redemption required. So that first 100 point redemption only nets you 7 additional cent per gallon. 200 points nets you 17 cents, and so on. So you have to redeem more points AND take more than the nominal 10 gallon fill-up to push the total pump savings high enough to exceed the 5% senior discount.

Bottom line.... if you're eligibe for that 5% discount, consider carefully whether waiting for Friday to get 4x fuel points is really in your best interest. Unless there are GC exemptions in the TOS for the 5% deal, that's when __I__ will be shopping. Partly because I'm on this site and want to stretch my dollar, but mostly because I'm retired with two cars. One of them (Tesla) doesn't need gas. The other (Kia) only gets filled every other month.

(Edited to Add): The 5% Senior Day discount seems to be on "Food and Household Goods". This implies that Gift Cards will be excluded from the 5% tier, leaving them in the normal 2% tier (4% on Fridays). So if a major part of your buying involves accumulating points via Gift Card purchases, those are best held until Friday. Will be nice to see the full terms and exclusions when next week's ad is released - all we have right now is this teaser. lol.

So seniors already get a 10% discount on the 1st Wednesday of every month at Kroger's. I wonder if this means the discount will now be 15% or if this is a one-time deal? Or maybe it's lowering to every Wednesday for 5% off instead of 10% off the 1st Wednesday of the month?

So many questions.......
