I think they have been going on sales almost constantly because they're the old tech, and most people don't want them as a result. High output, especially the 5.0, performs substantially better, especially in newer tech tools, like the M12 stubby that puts out 550 lbs of torque, for example.

Personally, I think Milwaukee are ramping them up rather than phasing them out. As new technology has pushed up the price of batteries, it has opened up a new market for the old-school basic batteries. About a year or so ago, DeWalt started pushing their original 20V MAX battery, the DCB200 (3Ah). Before that, they had pretty much disappeared, but now they are the first batteries you see on the shelves.

With this M12 battery, Milwaukee is not just clearing stock since they are using them for their seasonal BOGO deals (which typically means they increase production for the promotion). Since they give them free to authorized dealers, we'll likely see deals like this one in addition to the BOGOs.

It's Fasteners Inc. I'd feel pretty confident in their authenticity from Fasteners Inc.

Fasteners Inc is a very reputable authorized Milwaukee dealer. Chances of getting a fake are near zero.

They have offices in CA and OR and so they are registered to collect taxes in those states (and OR doesn't have sales tax).
