How is this a deal? Regular price shows $12.99 and it has a whopping discount to bring it to $12.29?

Price is good, it was $25, most of last year $20. For me it is mostly a reminder that I need one.

The budget "impacts" you see are Cr-V (Chrome Vanadium), same as standard sockets, rather than Cr-Mo (Chrome Molybdenum) which trades some strength for toughness to handle impacts.

To make them look like "impact" sockets, they add a black phosphate coating, which is porous to hold oil and resist corrosion. They'll show up with a thin coating of oil, and should be wiped down if you get them wet.

They'll probably hold up fine to household use, but are kind of the worst of both worlds. You'd probably be better off just using chrome sockets on your impact if you don't want to pay up for real Chrome Moly impacts.
