In before the apologists....
"Hey everyone! I bought a wonderful car! It has three out of four wheels, and the gas tank holds about 5 gallons total! The battery is a gerbil spinning on a wheel! It don't use it much, since I have a metro pass for the bus all the time. It's the best car ever! How DARE you suggest otherwise! You get me a cheap car with FOUR ENTIRE WHEELS for less than this price? You can't! Check and mate!"
Remember, it's an awful deal if actually use it as a MOBILE phone. If you're using Wifi (aka someone else's network -- the metro pass analogy), then it's awesome. You're not using it as a MOBILE phone, just a pocket computer.
You're dissing a deal without giving an alternative. How is that useful? I'm not going to clog the thread discussing this anymore.

Also, I don't use mine much away from WiFi, & until recently, i was able to get all the extra data & texts i needed through their rewards system for free (doing monthly things that took <5 mins a month). Sadly, it was recently neutered heavily, so now we can only get like 30 rewards points every month (it takes 500 for 1k texts, or 1k for 2 or 3GB of data). In the past, I got like 140 points every month.
