Friends don't let friends buy a Samsung fridge.

My neighbor got one last week. There was a Samsung service van outside their house yesterday

Just yesterday I replaced a 12 year old (built in 2013) Samsung French door fridge with dual zone cooling. Yes the notorious model with the water/ice dispenser in the fridge section. Only thing that broke was the ice tray in those 12 years and that just broke this year in 2025.

Then all of a sudden noticed we kept running outta ice, figured it was summer so we use more. Nope, ice dispenser was empty and ice cream getting soft. Checked everything and it ended up being low on freon, so there is a leak somewhere after 12 years. I refilled the unit with freon and it became ice cold again, but....this last about 4 months (was hoping it was a small enough leak to last at least 1 or 2 years, but now back to soft ice cream...was gonna add freon again but now the compressor is kaput, won't turn on anymore and not worth a repair on a 12 year old fridge. So I'm here on SD looking for fridges and this pops up. My Samsung fridge lasted 12 years...take that for what you will, but I did pull it out every year in Spring to vacuum the coils and keep things clean and clear...I know people who never do this and it makes the compressor work so much harder, reducing it's life. Maybe that's why mine lasted 12 years?! Sorry for the long post, but I know Samsung gets a lot of crap but mostly people complain and the ones who have no problems don't usually post. Wish mine lasted 20 years instead of 12 but I believe those days are long gone.

Honestly I wouldn't hesitate to get this as from reviews, they moved the ice to the freezer section where it should be. At this point I'm kinda in a bind and need to get something ASAP!

Assuming I'm willing to take the gamble, how good a price is this compared to historical?

It will die exactly when warranty runs out and the service people are awful 😕

Pretty good. This usually go for $1500 on sale. If you're looking for a new fridge I highly recommend this one!

I got one of these 33-4 months ago, just with that extra drawer in the middle and beverage center. Its really well designed fridge but keep in mind that door is very thick. We only purchase counter depth fridges and compared to the 6 year old Whirlpool that had ton of issues this sticks out another inch or so, if not two. You get a lot of very usable space and fridge is super quiet and so far everyone loves it. Very well organized and it seems solidly built fridge. Plastic drawers and shelfs are probably 1/3 more thicker than outgoing Whirlpool gold fridge.

Is it worth an extra $162 to get the beverage center? Looks like the total for that comes to $1,399

You can either listen to all of us saying to not ever buy a Samsung fridge, or you can ignore us, buy one, and then find out the hard way. Just don't say you weren't adequately warned.
We didn't buy one, it came with the house. Still, Samsung sent a technician to completely replace the ice maker and reseal around it in ours a few years ago. It didn't matter. We get about 5 weeks of ice, and then I have to spend 30 minutes with the steam cleaner attached to a small tube removing all the caked on ice all over the inside of the ice maker preventing it from actually producing ice. I literally just did it last night. We bought a countertop ice maker until we can justify buying another fridge. Ours also doesn't always keep the temp the fridge section is supposed to, especially in the drawer. That's another big issue some people have.
My in-laws also had a Samsung. The icemaker in it would leak water, which would pool under the drawers in the bottom of the fridge and then freeze into a huge sheet of ice, preventing those drawers from coming out. They bought a new one for the kitchen and moved it to the laundry room and don't have the water line hooked up.

I have this fridge with just the water pitcher. It sucks. can't get filtered water on demand until the pitcher fills up. Which it will only fill up about a 1/4 of the way each time.

Yes, I hate just having the auto fill pitcher. I want water on demand.
