Is there a stronger shaver that is a true upgrade over this?

These are good starter clippers for learning or occasional use. If you need a a more powerful and reliable options go with the Seniors or Legends.

If you need a shaver I'd get their foil one, which is crazy powerful. Although not as powerful, Andi's has a solid foil shaver.

For edgers I'd recommend Andi's t outliner or Wahl Hero as a minimum.

Good luck! I learned how to cut hair back in my college days, it's good investment.

And nearly 50 years later I still use the OSTER small animal hair clippers for loose ends, beard, etc.

Ok, so I need to clip my cat low because she can't use her back legs well and going to the bathroom makes a mess on her backside. I know their hair is much thicker and my first duty is to not hurt her but would these work for something like that and if not, what is the mechanical difference between human and animal clippers?

My family has a Wahl that has worked for decades. It runs quite hot but certainly is reliable. Recently I upgraded to a different brand's cordless one and that works well too. Cordless is a huge plus honestly and worth the money.

Adding (and correct me if I'm wrong) the Senior has a more stiff adjusting arm where the Legend has a smoother and fine tuned one (so fades are better).
The Senior is better in terms of motor strength and durability.
