It's more about getting a proper angle on the wrists. My wrist rest is a hard rubber with very little give and works well.

I had one these and totally love it. I tried both, and picked the wood one as my daily driver. Its hard to prop you wrist higher to so your wrist wont need to try hard to get to the high keys.", espcially mech keyboard
