the paramount release is on a 66gb disc with an average video data rate of about 46 Mbps and a file size of 53.4GB. There's a kaleidoscope release at 86gb so this one has compressed video.
I don't own Kaleidoscope. I'm opposed to their outrageous pricing. But knowing the better quality version is out there would bother me while watching this one.
The transfer is better than the BR version but overall not a great transfer.
Especially since there is no audio upgrade from the BR version.

I wouldn't read into that too much.
How well they transfer the movie to the metadata determines the quality much more.
Titanic is a good example, it's a reference transfer and listed at 49Mbps.

Totally agree.
But if you read Bill Hunt's review, he says the Kscape version looks better.

That just shows how reviews are completely subjective.
Imo you should read all reviews with a grain of salt.
That brings up another important factor.
Even IF you believe that's the case, you then ask is the difference worth the extra cost.
No universal correct answer, completely personal choice.
Keep in mind,in this instance it would only be better for half the movie.
