I'd say they're comparable in terms of performance. AdGuard is much better on price, clearly.

Anyone know if this stacks with existing lifetime sub, increasing device limit from 10 to 20? Getting close to 10 on old sub, running on all of my things

I was about to ask how it compares to SurfShark, but then I remembered that Google exists and Reddit still has users that participate, so:

https://docs.google.com/spreadshe...=231869418

Answer: 3.06; not great, not terrible (heh, sorry). 3.06/5 and well down the list of best VPNs with weak scores in Audited No Logs policy, Protocols supported, and number of servers; plus none of its servers are RAM-based, so there is a higher chance of data compromise if the servers are seized.

Edit: OTOH, it's 1/4 the cost of Surfshark and 1/6 the cost of Nord if you're just trying to buy stuff in other currencies or circumventing your local government's porn filters. I'm actually tempted to grab it as a backup since it has auto-launch and a killswitch option for unattended nautical adventures.

If the product is this much cheaper than the competition, there is a very real risk you are the product. Not saying that is 100% certain but if they were trying to get recurring customers, they wouldn't be doing a 5 year, they would be doing something shorter.

I have surfshark & probably won't renew it. I've had all kinds of issue with it. I use it on MacOS, IOS, Windows, & Linux & I can tell there software is unreliable. For example on the ios client i had the protocol selected as "Automatic" & I would constantly be in my car with the vpn connect & have no internet which made my carplay not work (navigation & everything). Disconnecting from the vpn fixed it but then connecting to the vpn caused it to not work. What i found out (after much troubleshooting because i had no idea it was because of the protocol) if I changed protocol & told it to reconnect it would fix it. I then switched from "Automatic" to WireGuard. That definitely made it better but i still had issues. In the end I ended up had to change it to OpenVPN (TCP) to 100% fix the issue. This is something that shouldn't happen. That is just 1 issue i've had (there are more). Granted speeds have been great.
What i ended up doing was switching to tailiscale & using my as an exit node (so i was using my home as the vpn spot) & its worked great. Love tailscale!! Unless your doing something shady or you want to get around some type of geolocation block this should work for most people.

I did exactly this last year. Yes, it increases your device limit to 20.
Another option, if you have a Raspberry Pi laying around, is to run Adguard Home (cost is free). This gives you network wide ad blocking without having to load Adguard on each device.

It uses a variety of methods to block. 1 is to block at the dns level. So every request made to ad ad network will be block. If you allow it, it can even install a https cert so it can decrypt ssl/tls traffic so it can eliminate ads. It works great. There will occasionally be a few ads that will sneak through. For example google news on ads sometimes has them but it works great & most ads will be gone. One question i'm sure someone will ask is does it block youtube ads. That i'm not sure of. I have youtube premium so i don't have to worry about them.

AdGuard staff and servers have historical ties to Russia. Some cybersecurity reviewers and pundits cite geopolitical risk and potential future privacy concerns
