I do know when I did dispatch repair for Lenovo the country of origin did matter: I had a X1 G3 come in for a bad system board and when I went to order the FRU my order was rejected because the serial number was sold in Canada and I was servicing it in the US.
All that to say, if you're going to be abroad for 6 months + you should buy a device in the country you'll be in to ensure you get warranty coverage. I tell anyone who's going to university or running a business off of a laptop to get next business day warranty support that covers the entire lifespan of the device. This doesn't apply for devices for recreational use.
