As I've used the original JBL Charge since 2013, without issue, I purchased a JBL Charge 4 on clearance at Costco, in May of 2023, as a gift for my daughter. Frankly, I forgot about it and it remained in a closet until July of 2024, when I heard an intermittent chirping coming from the bedroom. A search found that the new/unopened JBL Charge 4 was intermittently turning itself off and on.
An online search found that this was a known issue with the unit, with suggestions to address the problem, none of which were successful (yes, I reset the unit, updated the firmware, etc). In the end, I spent days attempting all of the suggested fixes (multiple times, in some cases) and to no avail (note: One Reddit user did note that they were able to resolve the issue by disassembling the unit, detaching the ribbon cable and reattaching it. That might be an option if all else fails). A call to HarmanAudio support was a total waste of time and they were unwilling to replace the unit or offer any assistance, as it was over 1 year old; despite the fact that it was new in the package and that this was a known issue with the unit. Since the unit could not simply be turned off, as it would turn itself back on, I was left with no other option than to throw it away, given their "solution" that I send the unit in for repair (at my expense), with the quoted minimum repair cost exceeding the purchase price.
My suggestion is to look at other options. Frankly, I'm shocked that these are still being sold, as the latest firmware update was intended to address the problem (as previously noted, it did not). This video, provided by another frustrated Reddit user, demonstrates the issue that I and many others have experienced (remember, mine remained sealed in a blister-wrap package, unopened, for 1.5 years before the defect appeared, while the package was still sealed; so, nothing to do with how it had been used, as had been suggested by HarmanAudio customer service, when these issues have been reported by others):
