I dont own this ...but the PAC Units( Onkyo RZ70 etc) offer a lot more performance value for the $$
My guess is Denon is going to announce their new lineup at Cedia... this is probably the start of them clearing out old inventory.

I'm looking at buying the Denon 3800 next time it goes on sale $900-$1000, but I'll hold off if there are new avrs on the horizon

It depends how you define performance.
Those PAC units don't offer 13 channel processing, wide channels, 6 height/object based channels, 4 independent sub outs, independent preamp mode, A1EVO access and if you're into Dirac access to ART very soon.
This does!
That's a lot of performance for this price imo!
So this receiver was unveiled almost 5 years ago. Guess it's time for an update.
If you have the name of a dealer that wants the business post it, or pm me if it violates some ridiculous MSRP terms.

In fact I saw one the other day that said the Pioneer LX805 was the best AVR under $5000
Both were assuming a customer using a one box solution and utilizing the significant power of the PAC units
To your point about the price..I do agree somewhat
This is where it should be on the regular and maybe reflects how down sales are at Denon/Marantz and the new ownership making changes...
