I have a variant of this bike. 48cm is about as small as adult bikes get. This is for someone around five feet tall. Second, this is an endurance road bike. It's not meant for flat out speed but rather for comfort on long rides. But it's still fairly fast and not as cushy as something like a beach cruiser. Third, Tiagra is an older groupset (which refers to the drivetrain and brakes), but it's still excellent and low maintenance. It is basically the entry level of Shimano's higher end groupsets. Lastly, these later model Synapses are SmartSense compatible, which is Cannondale's integrated electronics system (for lights and rear radar). SmartSense was sort of a dud on launch but I have it on mine and don't entirely hate it. It adds weight and cost and another thing to break, but one battery for everything with internally routed cables is convenient.

It think your idea of bike pricing is out of touch. Bikes with hydraulic tiagra are usually around 1200-1300. On top of that, this is a carbon frame so $1500 is a pretty good price

throw in at least a 105 for this price. Tiagra is laughable.

Agreed, this would be deal at $800. Overpriced for the groupset.

Once upon a time this was the default price for a carbon frame with Tiagra and alloy wheels. That way you can wait for the clearance price of $1250-1300ish.

Those were the days...... There isn't really bundle discounts anymore on a complete bike. You're practically paying for everything as if it's a pick n part build PC.

or you can go back years and get a used Trek road bike with 105 components 9 speed for about 200.

that, exactly, I'd love non-carbon with 105 groupset

but are there high end used bikes online somewhere these day other than ebay

I figure a year old bike is going to be half the price of any new bike even on clearance

the problem is trust

I have had a Cannondale Six Carbon Six for 14 years, riding over 2,000 miles a year and the carbon frame has had no issues, even though I weigh 200 pounds. Most of the people I ride with also have carbon frames, and none of them have ever had a problem with their frames either. I agree that used bikes are a much better deal, but the idea that carbon frames are fragile has been greatly exaggerated.

Aluminum is just if not more likely to crack than CF. Titanium or Steel are basically bulletproof, aluminum is very much not.

Definitely paying for the name/carbon fiber. I would never pay $1500 for a bike with a Tiagra group set, that is ridiculous. I would rather pay like $1000 for an aluminum frame and an actual good group set. Tiagra is walmart levels of quality.
Aluminum with Claris was $800 at the clearance Trek near me. Good luck getting better than Tiagra for $1000 on new these days. https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_U.../p/5301350

The fact that you just called tiagra Walmart level shows me that you know absolutely nothing about bikes. Tiagra is one tier down from 105 and the shift quality is exactly the same. The only difference is that tiagra is 10sp compared to 11sp. It is an excellent groupset that you will never find on a Walmart bike. The hydraulic tiagra groupset on this bike cost about $600. You are probably thinking about tourney groupsets which do come on Walmart bike.

Also, your take on buying an aluminum frame is ridiculous. At this point, the best new aluminum frame bike you can get for $1000 will probably come with this exact tiagra groupset. You are much better off getting the carbon frame and upgrading the groupset down the road. Rival axs and 105 di2 are regularly on sale for less than $1000. So for $2500, you get a carbon frame and electronic shifting.
