If you are going to buy this, buy a reliable Micro SD card, copy over the content from the micro sd card this consoles comes with to thew new one.
The micro sd card these Anbernic come with are super cheap and will immediately die off

Best device for GBA emulation on the go. This price is about as good as it gets. I got it for a dollar less on Black Friday.

There is also a bigger version or different form factors if you prefer but this is my favorite.

Install a custom firmware like MuOs, get some ROMs and enjoy the golden days of GBA you grew up on. Currently playing through megaman battle network and golden sun. I have 2 of these and have gifted a few for Christmas presents.

I bought this a few months back but am brand new to this world. Any recommendations on sites or guides on getting it set up like you suggest?

MuOs.dev for the custom firmware and retrogamecorps from YouTube has excellent content with a video on custom firmware.

If you just want to play games the anbernic firmware is fine but missing some key games that could be obtained elsewhere.

If you want more in-depth features and customization then you can try the custom firmware.

I suggest an alternate SD card so you can easily switch back if needed.

Retrogamecorps and joeyretrohandhelds both have websites and YouTube channels all about emulation consoles, how to set them up and how to install custom firmware

I used to spend hours tinkering with different operating systems and mods but not playing the damn games. Now I'm playing stock and enjoying the amount of games I've completed and enjoyed. I'm done with modding and back to playing. Don't feel pressured to modify it. The default OS is good to enjoy games.

This is an exaggeration, but upgrading the SD card is a good idea. I've had the RG35XX H for over a year now with the original card with no problems. No doubt they are inexpensive cards, though.

The faithful attempt to reproduce the GBA SP and the fact that it has no joysticks is what finally led to me to actually start playing retro games. I have more expensive and more "capable" systems like the Retroid Pocket 5, but I've been more busy trying to add every game and system possible, messing with apps and drivers that I actually never got far in any one game lol The RG35XXSP is close to perfect.
