I've used the Malco version of this tool for putting a bunch of wafer lights in soffits. Works great.

Only as good as your drill bit and doesn't work as smoothly as you think it will. Still a good way to get vents cut in.

I use mine for tin.

Worth it at full price. Was critical for installing collars on ac plenum. Buy extra drill bits if you're time sensitive - it will eat them (when working with steel).

For the initial holes, maybe but how are you going to enlarge an existing hole without a centering method? Granted it is possible, but definitely not like just making a new hole.

I was planning on mounting a 2x4 behind it to make the center pilot hole. Hole saw may be the smarter move

you will likely need a longer pilot bit if you mount the 2x4 behind the fiberglass and it may increase the wobble and make it difficult to use. These really need a flat surface and good control of the angle of the drill. You could do it with a hole saw if you cut a hole in a piece of ply wood use it to hold your hole saw in position. jig saw might be the easiest method though if you have stable hands.
