To achieve full speed, you'll need a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot. Even then, the performance gains over a Gen 4 NVMe drive are only noticeable if you're regularly transferring massive files. Gen 5 drives seem most worthwhile for capacities between 4TB and 8TB, where the speed advantage really starts to show. otherwise, Gen 4 is the current sweet spot for price, capacity and speed

Sequential i/o speed is 100% useless for daily use.

Get 4TB, so you can install more call'o'dooties. Those refurb 990pro / SN850x 4TB for $180/ $205 is the best deal this season.
