Just a heads up - these drives are solid performers, but need a firmware update immediately to prevent data decay. You have to use the update tool on the bottom of their SSD page here -> https://ssd.skhynix.com/ I have two of these, the speeds are pretty solid, and I haven't had any issues. Some Reddit posts outline the issues, but it seems to have been addressed with the firmware. And others have reported that more recent versions are just fine (mine are more recent).

Would this work well for an external enclosure and used as an m4 Mac drive?

That's what I've heard is possible. I would probably find an external ssd usb C carrier thing with a heatsink to give it some extra cooling.

Unfortunately, there is still no resolution for the Solidigm twin of this drive, the P44 Pro.

Even with firmware update users still report the same issue on Reddit. So, this drive is a complete bust

I have 4 of these drives and I've updated the firmware on them. No issues to report.

Yep. Never buying Solidigm or SK Hynix ever again. Their secret sauce was supposed to be the software and drivers. They've failed to deliver to those of us who bought the Solidigm P44. And for those wondering, Solidigm is a wholly owned subsidiary of SK Hynix, and use most/all of the same parts.

I bought one of these and have used it for an OS drive for a year or two. It's been great, and I've had no problems, but frankly there's the consideration that Samsung has better software, better firmware updates, and somehow just seems to be a better drive down the road in reguarly use, and if I were to do it again I'd just buy a 990 pro (or equivalent) and be done with it. Even though there's no problems with the drive, it's not as fast as it was a launch (it was blazing fast, now it's just fast) while my game drive a Samsung 990 Pro which I bought slightly after is still the original speed, and now faster than the Hynix drive, since the hynix drive has slowed down some.
I've had no data failures or anything, so I'm not saying don't buy. I'm just saying I'd personally prefer to buy another Samsung when that time comes. Samsung is just a more polished mature product, in my opinion.

What do you suggest instead of this with TLC and DRAM that isnefficient?
