I think you need to periodically buy batteries from Flume. I do not believe they are rechargeable

The battery pack that comes from flume is in a housing where 4 batteries can be taken out and recharged. I have done this myself for my house. If you get the grey battery pack, that's the older model. The new model is a black plastic housing that can be removed and the battery recharged.

I have the older model with the gray battery pack any chance I can upgrade my current flume to the new battery pack? That would be great.

Regardless, the battery lasts a looong time and costs 15 bucks with free shipping, so it's not a big deal imo.

Either way I really like the device itself

This is incorrect. The new pack is the sealed grey pack.

I installed this last week, it was straight forward and painless. The unit has a big rubber band to strap it to your water meter. From the website portal you can fetch an API key and integrate it with Home Assistant.

From opening the box to being fully integrated with Home Assistant took less than 30 minutes.

For $5 this is a great deal. I got mine free through my home insurance.

Would not recommend. Not accurate at be low flow rates so it's not useful to find small drip leaks. And they seem to stop working randomly. I guess it's maybe worth the $5 to experiment but no way worth any more than that. I was optimistic about this and am a data person but this is not it

Purchased a replacement battery pack direct from Flume back in December. The new battery pack comes in black (previously grey), and is just a more simplified version of their previous iteration, skipping on the plastic box that sealed the batteries. Looks like they're just taping the bundle now. THEY'RE NOT RECHARGEABLE. The pack uses Energizer Lithium batteries. Batteries are good for 2 years, give or take.

This new version sucks. Get the old one if you can with the easily changeable batteries.

The current (new) version - Flume 2, also now ships with user-replaceable batteries. They are NOT rechargeable (never were) but they now ship with black battery packs (instead of the prior sealed gray packs), which can be replaced with energizer lithium batteries. Instructions are here: https://help.flumewater.com/en/ar...ttery-pack
I just confirmed this with support earlier this week.

False. Their documentation is outdated, but the units now come with the black battery packs that can be replaced with new batteries by the user. I just confirmed this with support this week and even got a new unit this week, which actually came with 2 of the black (user-replaceable) packs. Instructions to replace yourself are here: https://help.flumewater.com/en/ar...ttery-pack

Yes, if you order a new replacement battery today, you will get the black battery packs, which then allow you to replace with energizer lithium batteries yourself going forward. You won't need to order new grey battery packs. I also don't even think they have them anymore.

I got this for almost nothing during promotion my water provider was running. This thing is mostly useless.
I already had a bunch of sensors monitoring for (indoor) leaks so I was hoping this would be useful for any outdoor ones.
It sent out an alert every time my plants were watered or pool filled. It doesn't support suppressing notifications based on sunset/sunrise which is the way most smart irrigation controllers work.
The batteries are crazy overpriced so when it died after 6 months or so I never ordered a replacement. Still collecting dirt near the water meter. Do not waste any money on this. You'll easily save more money by not replacing batteries in this vs the one time it'll save you money by actually catching an unexpected leak.
