these 4k@30 dongles should not exist. it's not like 4k is new and 60 hasn't been a standard forever, why was 30 ever considered acceptable?

30Hz TV is fine if you aren't gaming. Movies are typically shot at 24 fps. Let's be reasonable.

But I do agree for computer monitors. ALL computers made in the last 5 years can output 60Hz 4k.

Just terrible advertising, they're really just meant for 1080p output, they tag 4k on as a buzzword even though no one's using it for 4k@30hz.

It's because the dongle uses 2 lanes for USB 3 and has only 2 remaining for display bandwidth. I had an old (discontinued) mystery Chinese dongle that actually had native 4k60 hdmi, because it only had 2 USB 2.0 and all 4 lanes assigned to dp alt. I've yet to find another one like it (all other true 4k60 use thunderbolt).

Fully agree. 4k has been around forever. Using 30hz on display is a nightmare. Every time I see a dongle that has this I immediately pass it up. I don't understand why it's so hard to have 60hz across the board.

Probably does not matter much if monitor is only used for documents/code editing?

Is it still output at 30hz if I run a lower resolution like 1440p?

seeing the cursor jump around is a no go. try to change your current monitor to 30hz you can do it in settings in windows. You'll see how crappy it is
