Requires app to function, no temp controls on the device itself. App is free though.

Bad Reviews from Amazon and Target state that the sous vide disconnects from the app periodically.

Not sure why that person has their phone connected the entire time. I've set it and left the house with my phone - it continues to run after being set, no issues.

When did they start charging a subscription for the app/wifi? Am I just grandfathered in or it something special to this model.

Very good price for a name-brand sous vide but...I can't bring myself to buy one without controls on the device.

READ BEFORE BUYING
I was a huge fan of this company but they have added a 9$ a month fee to their app. You should be able to still connect via Bluetooth and change the temperature but I believe all recipes and wifi are behind this pay wall. Still worth 25$ but that is the reason this is 25$ and not 100$. It is a discontinued model they dont sell cause they pivoted to charging for their outdated poorly designed app.

At first I was sad I had paid $200 a long time ago for my sous vide but after reading all this I'm glad I have one with manual controls and no app lol

Bought one and returned it after a single use. The app is insufferable, the device is a subscription-sales tool through-and-through.

Anova's app will disconnect from the device and ask you to subscribe (with the easily-missed-X to skip) before you can get back to seeing the status of whatever you're cooking, and similar reall-shitty-things. Device cannot be used at all without the app. Notifications and timers only work if you let the app give you ads interspersed (as the same notifications) and let it run in the background ALL THE TIME. No sanity-friendly option at all.

You'll spend more money on the food it ruins the one time you fail to do something manually than you will on just getting a better Sous Vide device.

I have this one and the app works just fine. No frills, but that should be expected. No monthly fee for the app either. Pondering whether I should acquire a backup unit for this historically low price.

Well, I impulse bought but I think I will return it based on the comments.

Makes sense that the app should be an additional option, not the option

Bought this from Walmart in May for $20.

I used it over the course of ten days of travel to sous vide pounds of beef, chicken, and pork. It worked with the app, no issues.

I am grandfathered into the app so can only speak from that experience.

This unit has one job and only one job: sous vide the meats. It does it as designed.

I set timers outside the app and don't use the app for recipes. If you're looking to use the app for more than temp control, it might require a subscription. A subscription isn't needed to control the temp.

I've had that happen a few times, thus far I just remove the device, restart the app and click new device, generally it has readded itself on the first try.

I think it's new, that said, it works fine without subscription, I suppose if you want to follow recipes in app, I just find what I need on google and set the temp and go. For $25 this works just fine.

Until they start charging you to change the temp or something and it turns into e-waste. Thankfully, I bought the original with physical controls. I won't buy another Anova product after the shenanigans with the app and discontinuing support for WiFi/bluetooth on older devices.

TLDR: Don't buy this

this is like the last thing that needs an app. Set a temperature, leave it for 15 hours or something, not sure what app would really streamline. There are some cooks where you cook at one temp, then finish at a second temp, but far less common and again, I can spend 5 seconds changing a setting a single time during a 2 day long cook.
That said, price is pretty good and I like that it's compact. I'm tempted but I won't
