Thuja Green Giants often struggle to grow and survive in Texas, due to temperature and soil conditions…fyi
They struggle up North too....bought them because of the 15' per year claim. Almost all at this size died, the ones that did survive barely grew at all and are still struggling. Supposedly the first year they grow the root system, the joke at home is they look smaller than when we planted them. The tall ones at aprox. 6' are not doing that great either, the tops grew but the rest of the tree yellowed and lost a lot of branch leaves.
Too risky to plant trees of this size. Wait a few years and it doesn't grow well then what? You lost a few years of time and time is money. So get bigger ones.

I got the bigger ones too. Thought that if they were deer resistant they would do well, never thought about rutting season. They destroyed (scraped) all that were planted out in the open, destroyed my willow trees too. You need to cage them for a long time...like forever maybe.
Transport is important also, if you lay the larger ones down, use a machine bucket or just handle them roughly, it damages the branches and after a while they yellow and die.

So true. It's actually cheaper when you factor in the cost of water and fertilizerover years, and instant gratification. I bought a similar plant and it took 10 years before it was 7ft, and two of the plants are still only 3 ft because they don't get as much sun.

You can get 6ft ones for like $75 on Marketplace. Run irrigation and water them correctly for the first year. They'll be 10ft within 1.5 years. This little ones aren't worth planting but you can just let them grow in pots for a while if you aren't in a hurry. I have about 40 on my property that are 10+ ft tall. They're excellent for privacy.
