as a gay, i'd wish all these companies would go away. its been horrible.
pride month became commercial pride month. years back these companies all virtue signaled to ride the hype and go after the gay dollar. More advertisements, merchandise, rainbows, bedazzles etc....
after a few years it ballooned and got enough attention that it tipped over and the anti-pride hype came in and a lot of these companies backed way off the merch and promotion. This year felt especially muddled compared to two years ago.
None of this would have happened if these companies didnt fake actual interest in the cause and put out so damn much merch and advertising to shove it down everyones throat.
.... but whatever, ill still buy this cheap mouse. love buying cheap leftovers after the hype has died down. cant wait for those damn dubai chocolates to drop

But I'd just remind you that "Straight relationships" and "straight romance" products, symbolism, advertising, visibility, etc, etc (not meaning sex, just meaning straight relations and straight advertised relationships & products traditionally oriented to straight people in very traditional categories of relationships) is a trillion dollar industry by itself.
I really don't think there needs to be this idea that there has to be a certain month and like the rainbows thing was overdone. But just HAVING a rainbow on a product, first of all, is not weird at all. Its the people who find it weird who are being weird. And second considering about 10% of every population is gay, I would honestly expect that at least 10% is visibly marketing to gay people.
Why at least 10%? Bc if youre trying to catch the attention of a small group, you need more focused marketing, whereas when you are just dragnetting a large group, you can be very general. This leads to the perception that undo attention is given to something particular vs. those things general -- but the reality is that this is true for any demographic that is marketed for.
I think what a lot of these whiners just have a problem with is that the retail market has the corner on it, instead of churches, and yet they don't market conservative religious values as much. But this is understandable bc many religious conservative values are like "You need to murder that kind of person who is not exactly like us, so says our god who is a better god than anyone elses god here!" And that doesn't really promote a welcoming environment while shopping. And yet if you look how wide spread churches are in the US, for example, nearly on every single city block, often multiple, its really insane to think that the gay lifestyle is overmarketed. The only lifestyle overmarketed, quite honestly, in the US, is hellfire evangelism.
But somehow everyone else has gone too far, lol, sure. Nah. They literally cornered the market and just want a monopoly. Screw that. It didn't work in the dark ages, it doesn't work now. Other people exist than just the scared ones that thing every else is icky.
