What I do myself and recommend to my clients is to stick to the cheapest unflavored creatine monohydrate that you like. You'll save money and you're probably already taking some pre-workout drink/powder that already has loads of other supplements (including electrolytes).

New research is showing that higher doses might show better cognitive benefits. Nothing on the strength side though past 5g. Not going to hurt you
What do you mean by "it starts clearing you out"? I've not tried upping my regular dose yet, but I've never had issues with it before, so I doubt adding some more would hurt.
