I'd be careful with dismissing something just because it's a VA panel. "Super dated" is not a very good assessment of this technology.

I'm not familiar with this particular model, but Samsung still makes some of the best VA panels for gaming with very few of the issues people usually have with VA panel technology such as ghosting.

There used to be 3 main types of video game monitors. The panels or screens were TN, VA, IPS. Each had a benefit and flaw. TN had super-fast response times for very fast games, but the color was not good. VA had very good contrast and deeper black but the response times were not as good and led to blurring of images in super-fast games. IPS does not have as deep black and contrast, but it has good color in relation to a TN panel. When you use a VA panel side by side with an IPS panel in a super-fast game, the image on the IPS looks much smoother.

What some gamers will do is have 2 screens. A VA screen to play slower paced games like an RTS or RPG. Then an IPS screen to play an FPS.

I have 3 of these in 27". I bought them last Black Friday for $156 each. I've been very happy with them. I use them 10+ hours a day for work and some occasional gaming on the weekend. I tried going back to a flat panel before I bought them, and concluded that I'll always prefer curved monitors.

Here's a review of the 27" version. Seems pretty solid.
