Does anyone think this will ever be worth real money? The movie was a one off and I don't think it has much of a major cult following.

Oh, I'm not an idiot, obviously I'm not talking about buying it here and selling it on eBay tomorrow.

I'm talking about a year or two down the road, is this worth $100 when retailers are not selling it anymore

I purchased one to scan and 3d print, larger scale, into a birdhouse. One birdhouse will sell for 65 to 80 bux, profit from day one

So tie up $30 with tax, have it take up storage space in your house for a couple of years, then try to move it for $100, which would be $56 after fees, but less due to inflation. Then you gotta pack and ship it.

Isn't it easier to work a couple of hours of overtime and be done with it?

for value it depends on the market. just like other collectables, there's mini economies within the lego ecosystem that are worth more than others all depending on what's popular at the time. when this set retires, this should be able to sell at near or at MSRP. I doubt it would see much more... brickeconomy has good info on trends. the best ROI are old brickheadz.

Depends how you're approaching this. Looking for a long term investment? Disney will always sell. Quick buck? You could sell the minifigures as a group for what you're paying and then piece out the pieces for the house as well. All depends on your effort for now or then. You could store it for years and hope for the best that you'd sell this for $100. All depends. Otherwise build it and enjoy the fun build.
