Don't bother. Most of the time it will be a hassle to put phone onto the gimbal. For regular videos, just take out phone and start recording
I would disagree with this.
Setting it up takes about 10 seconds once you've figured out the hang of where to place the clamp. It's not like older models (OM4, OM5) where it would have a tilt if you didn't have it perfectly centered.
Using a gimbal makes your videos silky smooth, especially if you are moving around. I use them to film my kids' basketball and soccer games and the footage is much better than any other way. If you've never used one, you probably can't fathom a need for it. I would liken it to driving a Cadillac after years of driving a Chevy. You go, "I didn't know it was supposed to be this smooth"
The P version has the extension rod that adds 10" or so to the camera. For my purpose, this is helpful because it allows me to be seated in stadium seats and see right over other spectators. Plus sports footage tends to be better when viewed from higher up.
It also has the trackwheel on the side instead of a slider. I use the trackwheel to control the zoom, as it's very smooth to do so. The slider can be used, but it isn't as sensitive, so if you push too hard, it causes you to toggle to the phone's other cameras. This does temporarily ruin the footage though. It's very case specific to what I do. If you aren't filming dynamically, you probably can do without the trackwheel.
It also has the module included that works as a light. This doesn't apply to me and seems to be more tailored to people who film themselves (podcasts, etc).
I managed to have not purchased a gimbal yet. Will I be fine with just the 7, without the P?
Same here ... Survived without a gumball. I bought a few off Amazon that were very well reviewed for a vacation trip I was planning to take. But putting the phone in the gimball was so painful for general recording that I never used any and returned all of them.
I just wanted to have something to hold the phone better and these help with that but not worth the trouble unless you are recording games, etc the you know that you are going to record for a long time.
