    Consumer Reports does testing where they apply repellant to volunteers arms and stick them in a chamber full of sterile mosquitos to see how they react. They also have them walk around to see how well they work after people get a bit sweaty. Lemon Eucalyptus seems to be very effective but it seems to depend on the exact formula and other ingredients in the mix. They noticed the same with DEET and Picaridin too.

    Repel Lemon Eucalyptus in a plastic pump bottle got very high scores (90 out of a high of 96) and was "Recommended" along with some DEET and Picaridin products, but they didn't test this specific product with the metal spray can. Out of the four different Repel products they tested (some DEET and some lemon eucalyptus oil) , all of them were recommended so there's a pretty decent chance this one is effective too.

    Some other brands like Natrapel Lemon Eucalyptus were also recommended. Cutter Lemon Eucalyptus in a spray can was good while Cutter Lemon Eucalyptus in a plastic pump bottle wasn't as effective for some reason, maybe the formula was different.

    One other good thing about lemon eucalyptus oil is that it doesn't mess up or stain plastic, vinyl, spandex, and leather like DEET does.

    Anything with "natural essential oils" like rosemary, lemongrass, cinnamon, etc. just plain sucked. Same with citronella oil.

    I use 20% Picaridin. It lasts all day hiking and sweating in the woods. Does anyone have first hand experience with lemon eucalyptus oil's effectiveness as an insect repellant? Because the claim "repel mosquitoes for up to 6 hours" is pretty week at best.

    I've tried using the smaller bottle with the pump for walking the dog and I don't feel like it helped much with the bugs that flies towards your eyes. I sprayed some on my neck like with cologne. 🤷🏻 ♂️

    Aren't 95% of DEET free products useless when it counts? Like it might discourage 1 or 2, but still mostly placebo.

    Lemon eucalyptus works. All we use unless we are deep woods/hunting and want a second tick barrier. But that being said, aren't these like $4-6 at Walmart?
