Reading on a phone or tablet isn't even in the same ballpark as reading on eink. The reading experience is leaps and bounds better with eink.

Pretty good price for a color eink. I ended up going with a Boox Go Color 7 gen II. The reading experience is definitely better on kindles, but I like having the play store so I'm not limited to just Amazon. Also browsing the web and looking at discord and telegram is easier on the eyes at night before bed.

I think more so where he's coming from is that it's another device. I've moved to this same boat as well. Had several kindles before, even in the process of selling my scribe, and am trying to get to a singular device platform. Will be upgrading to a Z Fold 7 here soon (Coming from a Z Fold 5), and already use that for reading, Audible, and note taking.

eInk is absolutely better for reading purposes and eye strain, but when you just want one device, the larger and foldable phones basically make that possible - phone, tablet, reader, etc.

Reviews on the ColorSoft version seem very mixed.

I've read the same. I've read about an odd yellowish screen and clarity issues. I'm probably gonna wait until a few more versions come out before considering. That said, MOST of the books I read don't require color. However, my kids are REAL into graphic novels and my wife likes reading magazines.

I've had e-ink before. If you could read you'd have seen I was talking about the lack of capability (in comparison with a phone) with such devices. Being able to work while listening to a book, and then sit down and pick up where you left off is transformative.

If all you care about is sitting down and treating it like a physical book then of course the ebook is better. I'm used to much more these days.
In your previous post, you said "minor advantage of the slightly nicer display (for reading)." And now admit "of course the ebook is better".

So you don't have a TV because "why use something with the minor advantage of the slightly nicer display (for watching movies)?"

A reading experience like a physical book, *IS* he reason people buy eInk devices. Which, clearly doesn't interest you. So, other than to thread crap, why are you wasting you time on this thread

I am thinking about this for the kids too. Some interest in comics and graphic novels. Worried it is a bit small. We have a 10 inch Boox color device and that one seems a much better size for color content. You lose a bunch of resolution going with color content and my eyes can't read it on a 7" display. The price is nice.
It would be an easier choice if it had a side grip and page turn buttons but Kindles are sticking with this format mostly.

I had a Colorsoft for a week. But the less-than-crisp text really bothered me when trying to read. I returned it for the Paperwhite Signature Edition…

yes i bought this right when it came out. had the same issue and returned it for the paperwhite. i would highly recommend the paperwhite instead of the color if you are an active reader bc the less than crisp text bothers me

Did they ever fix the many issues with the Kindle Colorsoft, such as the yellow-tinted screen?
No they never did. What they did was to change the entire screen to a yellowish color so you could not see the defect (the defect was part of the screen had a slightly different tint) so instead of having a white background, it's yellowish.

I'll wait for the fix in the next gen... or pick this one up at 1/3 price once the new ones comes out Smilie

They changed the screen background to a yellowish tint to hide the hardware defect of the lower screen having a different tint due to a defect they cannot fix.

The way this works, BTW, is that they take a normal 300dpi B/W screen and overlay a 150dpi color screen on top of it so that anything in color is half the resolution. It kinda works but I'm waiting until they figure out how to do a real 300dpi color screen instead of this kludge.

I decided not to wait to buy this cause it was such a good deal. I spoke with customer service about why GETKINDLE15 wouldn't work. They asked for an image of the advert I was seeing. I googled the code and found some generic image of the advert and uploaded it. They said they would refund me the 15% on the purchase when I received the item, but to go ahead and order it. So I ordered it with the 20% off and traded in a few echo devices I had lying around amounting to a $58 gift card. Total came to 116 with tax. Today it arrived, I messaged and asked for the refund. They refunded me an additional $21. Overall, really slick deal indeed. Now to crack it open and see how much I hate the yellow tint...

Edit: no matter how much I look I cannot see a yellow band or tint. I feel like I won the lotto!

Nice! You did the work! I love my Scribe... have you used one? What are you reading where you're appreciating the color?

Yes, I have an oasis, scribe, and colorsoft lol. I traded in my voyage for this (rip voyage). Love the scribe as my notebook and portable book. Love the colorsoft to see my library in color as well as some graphic novels (there were some recent, really good deals on the graphic novel versions of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series that look great on the colorsoft). It really is so nice to see bookcovers in color, makes selecting a book so much more fun. Now if we could only get Amazon to make finding/reading synopses much easier from the library. And the oasis is kept in a tablet holder above my bed so I can read hands-free before I go to sleep. I don't need color with that one as I will only read books on that.
