Grill plates are non-stick and are not very durable. They will peel off within the first 5 uses. I tried finding cast iron replacements and could not. I do not recommend this product

You're not supposed to use metal on it. I've used it far beyond 5 uses and it still looks brand new. Only reason I wouldn't recommend this is because it's too expensive for refurbished.

I have had this model for a year now. I have used it at least twice a month and the plate still looks new. I only use wood/silicone utensils so it doesn't scrape up the coating. Cleaning is the easiest part. Remove residue and toss it in the dishwasher and it comes out new.
