I've had these for about 5 years, solid… cork and foam has held up well. I prefer this multi piece style as they don't collapse fully into itself and I can apply more pressure if I need an assist in getting up over an obstacle then extend back out.

For travelers, would anyone know if we can carry on these poles, or have to check them in at the airport? Thanks!

They are not allowed as carryon. I've had to check mine.

TSA website says that blunt-tipped hiking poles are allowed in carry-on (http://www.tsa.gov/travel/securit...king-poles), BUT it is up to discretion of TSA officer at screening and some amazon reviews say that they have been confiscated. These do have a metal tip to them and whether TSA considers them to be blunt is a toss up. Personally I wouldn't risk it unless I was okay with the trouble of having TSA stop me.

TSA didn't allow mine and I had to throw it since I wasn't checking any bags

If you want a lighter option, Ive been happy with the carbon version of these poles. Price is still much less than Black Diamond. I mostly use them backpacking with my Durston xmid 2 solid.

You might be able to carry it on if you enter the airport actively using one while wearing very dark sunglasses ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wait, you're telling me that there's a product out there called the "Trekology Trek" and it's not Star Trek?

Oh, I didn't know there was a carbon fiber version. Good to know.

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll give these a shot for my next trip.

If you keep the rubber tips on the poles, you should be able to get them through TSA

If carry a backpack of sizeable weight, go with aluminum poles like Black Diamond. I snapped a carbon fiber pole and when they break, they shatter. You bend an aluminum pole, you can carefully straighten it.

These average about $40 on Amazon. Doesn't seem like a great deal unless you need them, I guess.
