This was true for a long time, but you can now edit the amount of the gift card you want to use during checkout.

Always somebody. Think I burned through my $400 GC's by April from December deal. Many essentials/pet stuff is same price as Wally World for example and then they run Circle deals to get even more GC's or $ off makes it worth it plus the 10% off GC from the get go.
