It was a thing from SNES all the way through Wii U and apparently stopped with the Switch.
Sad.
It's better to buy physical now so you can play on your Switch 2 in 2050 with its deteriorated battery that can last 30 minutes on a full charge instead of playing on future NSO emulators or remasters developed for the latest hardware.
Physical gives you the ability to sell. Given the high value of Nintendo games it makes a lot of sense to buy physical and sell. Buying digital benefits the developer, not the gamer. You recoup no money on a digital purchase.

You can easily find first party titles for $30 on Craigslist, offer up, Facebook market place if you want physical.

Congrats on getting a job friend, your parents must be so proud. Having the option to sell your game has no impact on you. Hoarding tons of completed digital games is just silly.
