i did notice it, thanks.

it was one of my options for my tiny home office back then but i figured because of its lack of activated carbon filter, a much louder noise and the higher maintenance cost later on, it might be better to get the much more expensive non wifi enabled am80 and set it on lower speed.

They have the c545. You can easily get filters for that model pretty cheaply.

This is the same one Costco sells, that goes on sale a few times a year at $99.99. This deal is obviously cheaper since its Factory Reconditioned. I got mine from Costco and love it so far.

the problem with these models is that they don't have an activated carbon filter that you can wash and prolong the life for another 6 months. so yes, the filters are cheaper but you'll end up replacing them more.

Winix has a few of these units that are Refurb'd for sale when they have them in stock, this is a cheaper price then Winix, but the C909 is in stock right now for 119.00 and save another 12.00 by using the coupon code ( SAVE10 ). You have to just keep checking back AM and PM to see if they restocked

The activated carbon filter removes VOCs from the air, is that the primary function? How important is that in a home?

My number one issue is dander so all I usually care about is HEPA filters and sensors that will pick up the speed when dust is detectable.

Is the activated carbon the "I only eat organic non-gmo" of air purification? Is it a deal breaker to not have it?

yes, mostly for voc's. it's important but there are of course other ways to release voc's like opening windows and doors. also, just to be clear, the two purifiers listed above do have their own carbon filters but they are the flimsier kind that you just can't wash.

whether it's a dealbreaker or not is up to you. for me, it's more of yes, you're saving up on the upfront cost but you'll end up spending more on filter replacements later on. not only that, but using a bigger air purifier is usually better if you have the space for it, even on a much smaller space. you can always lower the setting and this won't be as noisy as a small space filter working on fullblast.
