It's been confirmed that the software improvements to windows they're making for the ROG Xbox Ally are coming to other handhelds as well:

> Similar full-screen Xbox experiences will be rolling out to other Windows handhelds, starting next year.
You can install steam deck os on this one now.
It isn't bad to have choices. SteamOS is a single-purpose OS that doesn't try to do too much outside of gaming. It can but it isn't in your face like Windows can be. Right now, I just want to turn it on and run Fantasy Life and it does just that. There's a suspend feature that's pretty neat too but my controllers currently don't reconnect after suspending until you reboot the system.

Dave2D released a video about this. Apparently, with Steamdeck OS, the Legion Go had better performance in some games, better battery life, etc.

I like to play assetto corsa competizione on the LeGo, mostly for the fact that AMD AMFM2 allows to visually double the frame rate at relatively high in game graphics settings. At 800p I get up to 109fps at 30 Watts TDP or 90fps at 20 Watts TDP.
This is not supported under Steam Os, sadly. My Steam Deck Oled has a hard time pushing 60fps in the same game at much lower settings.
it really depends on what games you're playing but at least for the racing Sims I tried, it's not even close - as much as I like the form factor and Oled brightness of the Steam Deck.

Got one for around $320 on offerup like 4 months ago. Its cool for what it is, but I definitely don't use it as much as I thought I would. I might try putting the steam OS on it and seeing how much I like that. Worse case scenario back on offerup.

Reviews on the gen 2 lenses from people have been poor, have not seen to many reviewers using them. They are expensive for what they are but right now the Virtue PRO XR/AR can be had for under $300 on ebay refurbished through their storefront and they are very positively reviewed on best buy which carries them.

This a warm deal at best. It was this same price over 8 months ago. And then it was $350 a couple weeks ago at Target. At this rate, you are better off waiting for the next gen models.

May trade in my rog ally z1e for this. The bigger screen is worth it. Am I missing something?

Display is inherently strange. it's portrait orientation instead of landscape. Software makes it landscape. Overlays like the AMD one show up oriented portrait. You've been warned.

There are trade offs.

Ally has VRR screen, much better software and updates, astonishingly better speakers. Overall, it's a much better user experience. The screen is a bit small for me at 7".

LeGo has a bigger, more vibrant screen but it's a native portrait screen so it does not do VRR. Its speakers are the definitively worst speakers I have experienced on ANY handheld in the last 15 years. The detachable controllers are cool but you'll need the 3d printed custom grips for anything remotely comfortable. The software is lackluster.

I've had the Steamdeck LCD, ROG Ally Z1E, Legion Go, ROG Ally X, and currently MSI Claw 8 AI+.
