I almost ordered this exact enclosure a couple of days ago for regular price. I'm so glad I didn't. Thanks OP!I will be using this as my external boot drive for my M4 Mac mini.

No TB3 40/32.5 Gbps, FYI. Falls back to USB on TB3 systems.

[USB4 devices optionally can work with TB3 ports at full speed, but for some reason this one doesn't].

A noob question for experts here- how is this different and better than other Mac mini docks like one from Satechi? I want an external 2TB storage for picture editing in Lightroom/photoshop, which one is better option? Thanks much in advance.

Sure I've been eyeing this one for the following reasons:
  • Good performance for the new Mac's with m4's, bandwidth around 3,000MB/s
  • Great passive cooling without the need for a noisy fan
  • Seemed well regarded in terms of compatibility for Mac's
