Does not have Local Dimming. I'll pass, but it's a decent TV otherwise.

For these budget TVs, I prefer Roku. Tried Android and Fire, and I hated them both. The simplicity of Roku makes streaming much easier

Yes. Anything you can do to a firestick, you can do to this TV. The process is exactly the same so you can look up how to do that. Setup retroarch on my TV to play my 100% completely legally obtained ROMS

I've never owned a Smart TV, but now I need one mainly to mirror videos from my phone to a bigger screen (my eyes aren't what they used to be!). My only priority is using the TV without creating accounts, logging in, or dealing with tech company bloatware. What's the simplest way to do this?

Agree. Really comes down to preference among the various smart tvs, but I prefer Roku as well.

Not looking but it seems to me just browsing articles and whatnot, I think there are many TVs out there that are better at this price point plus maybe $50 more at times? Am I wrong?

Got the 50" from BB for $179 plus tax for my step-daughter's room. Major points for the step-dad. I'm 44 years old, ya'll know what I would have thought to have a 50" in my bedroom at 17 years old!? TVs are so cheap it's criminal these days.
