Well...for the uninitiated, convenience and service at a gas station usually codes as a gas purchase. I have only tested it with my Wells Fargo Autograph successfully at Exxon for service and Wawa for food. I've had success with Chase Freedom at Royal Farms convenience for food during 5% gas quarter.
If your local gas station happens to sell its own brand of gift cards, it should work to trigger.

Back then there was no limit for the quarter, just per transaction limit, so I loaded up with thousands worth of gas station gift cards for the year.
They also had the 10% cashback for groceries stores promotion. Bought even more thousands at Walmart Neighborhood markets for use at Regular Walmart, Walmart Gas, and Sams Club.
I was stopping daily after work to buy gift cards to not look suspicious.....lol. This was 5+ years ago. $1,500 in cashback rewards on two accounts. Haven't seen these promotions in years ...Good times!
