These are really well built. To be honest, though, they lack airflow and are still susceptible to being blown away. Also really long, larger than most trunks or hatches can handle. We still use it at the beach, but it's not that much more work to use a 10x10 popup if space allows. The easiest, lightest, and most flexible of all is the Shibumi sun shade, but IIRC that one is $200+. And requires a constant breeze to stay up.
I don't think people want to carry around a 33 pound base to the beach or to the ballfields
Great product. We use ours all of the time. If you are using it on the beach a couple plastic shopping bags or a nicer reusable bag is great to fill with sand and anchor the guy lines. I was tempted to get another as a backup since ours has gotten some small holes over time etc. But it still is great.

I wonder how this would fair in slightly higher winds without the air vent slot at the top similar to regular sized umbrellas.

In theory, these should work well at the beach, but depending on the angle of the sun, this might not provide any shade. I live on the west coast near the beach and see people with these and sometimes they have to sit sideways to the ocean because the afternoon sun will eventually come from the front if you're facing the ocean. I'd recommend a vented beach umbrella that can move with the sun. Beach umbrellas also provide more air flow.

you can use this like a regular umbrella too. just keep the flaps up and stick the umbrella in the sand straight up

I bought one of these because lets face it, an Ez-Up is a lot of hassle. Well, this is more hassle than an Ez-Up. The only good thing I can say is it takes less space. It also doesn't not handle moderate and above wind speeds without additional items to secure it.

Sucker is pretty heavy to carry around since the pole is iron.
But it's well built overall.
Mine finally died, so perfect timeing.

Lol I mean that's common sense. I was thinking about the pool side or patio. Trying to justify getting this umbrella for more use.

As other mentioned, this is GREAT for sunny days at the park and beach but i would be cautious if there is substantial wind.

I wouldn't recommend these for a windy beach like where we go in North Carolina. The lack of ventilation makes them insufferable in full sun (think: oven), and, when they're blowing, the winds can uproot these and send them flying unless they are set up with good engineering skills. We've tried several different shelters and finally gave up -- we have chairs with built-in covers now. They aren't perfect, but they're fairly light, easy to set up, and stay firmly planted with the wind.

Also note that I'm fairly cheap and wasn't going to spend hundreds of dollars on a shelter. I think the most I spent was about $150 on a Big Agnes one, which works well but is too heavy and a pain to set up. I second the reference above to the Shibumi sun shade -- it's almost always windy in NC, which is why the Wright brothers went there, so those things are awesome.

At 53", it just barely fits into a 2018 Honda Accord trunk diagonally.
