I have 2 DualSense I got around PS5 launch and experiencing terrible stick drift. I'm not even a huge gamer, anyway — are these newer ones / colored ones any better? I'm assuming they might have gone through revisions at some point.
No, these will eventually start drifting. My version 2 joysticks started drifting and Im a very casual gamer. I was furious, looked up how to fix the joysticks and replaced them with hall effect joysticks. Everything is back to normal.

Replacing the joysticks with hall effect joysticks is a tedious process, it involves desoldering the older joysticks and soldering the new ones on. Desoldering took me the longest (Sony uses a high temp solder and you basically have to mix it with a low melt point solder) but I think I got the hang of it now. Will be doing the same with my sons ps4 joysticks.
It's so strange to see the cost of the same technology actually increasing over time. It wasn't that long ago these were $40 on sale, I had no idea that I was actually investing then lol!

Something, something...uphill...both ways!

Yes there is a version 2. It's possible that they are less susceptible to drift

yes all of these sticks will eventually drift, I'm saying that it's possible version 2 isn't as bad (in terms of how quickly they start to drift).

Yes but it requires you use Steam to run the game (whether it's a game directly purchased on Steam or a non-steam app that is launched via Steam). There is third-party program (DS4Windows) that lets you trick your PC into thinking your DualSense is an Xbox controller (and this lets you use it on games that are not launched via Steam) but this requires some setup to get it to work seamlessly.

No version 2 uses the same joysticks as version 1. When the controller starts getting drift is purely based on chance. My version 1 is still going strong.
