If you don't care about gaming on a computer then this honestly destroys every Windows PC under a grand for any other tasks.

How does it destroy?

I love that apple finally decided to give base models a reasonable 16 gb. This is a good deal.
The m4 is uses Arm technology similar to Windows Snapdragon.

I find most people are happiest staying with what they are most familiar with .

Every year Apple has school deals, free gifts with purchase of Apple products before the school year starts. Last year they kicked off the deals in June I believe. Last year they gave gift cards up to $150 I believe. And couple of years back they gave AirPods. Not saying hold off, just saying if you have patience wait and see what they have for this year.

I use DaVinci Resolve to edit videos. On my i7 with 32gb of ram (2 GB video card, stop laughing), I can't scrub videos even with proxy media. On a base model m4 Mac Mini, I can scrub perfectly without using proxy media. To buy a Windows machine that could do that, I would have to get a pretty good video card.

I agree that video editing has been a pleasure on my M4 pro... But have you used davinci resolve with windows and snap dragon?

Legacy 32/64 is just a different beast and windows catering to everyone is harder than what apple has going. So specific tasks have been batter... But that will all change soon enough on the windows side as well. Then it will be workflows and I know for a fact I do faster work on windows than Mac. The apple way is so slow with everything is wise... I only use my Mac's for personal browsing and video work. Everything else is windows or Ubuntu.

Used to be Windows 100% and despised Mac. Found used M1 Pro MBP for $500 locally and thought I'd give it a shot. Wow, not even close once you figure out the OS. Short list of where Mac dominates that I've observed:

Running Plex for years on a pretty high powered gaming desktop and buffering would take several seconds on some of the higher res videos. Not with Mac (base m4 Mac mini). Near instant.

Power management is way better on Mac. On my MBP I can close the lid and it has power days later. Hit or miss on PC. Open it right up and it's immediately ready to use. On a pc laptop good luck.

Sound on MBP is better than any other laptop. Also the sound from the Mac mini speaker is decent.

Near silent operation on both mini and MBP. PC desktop or laptops typically run fans pretty noisy.

From someone that was a fierce defender of PC for all of my adult life, I converted and I'm really annoyed with having to use a PC for work.

It's generally just going to be a smoother, more hitch-free experience for virtually everyone than your average windows PC at/around this price. The base M4 has plenty of CPU/GPU headroom to spare, even for some heavier users.
It's also significantly more power efficient than your average desktop PC - running more like 2-4W vs ~50-100W+ during real-world idle usage, ranging from 25-50x more efficient.

Just like the tide. Hold out a bit longer and it'll drop to $450, then buy.
Microcenter already has them at $449 right now.

this was $425 at MC a few weeks back.
I will probably wait and see if I can get this under $400 from somewhere.

I will concur on most of this. Die hard PC user most of my life but was on SD and got that crazy M3 Pro Macbook Pro deal a few months back. After installing about 10 apps to mimic basic windows functions that for some reason MacOS doesnt include, I've been using it for months and pretty happy. I also got a mac mini from costco to test and its also very good.

In general, if you can deal with MacOS quirks, this is probably a great deal for most people who dont game on their PCs. MacOS seems more stable compared to windows 11 chaos as well.

I still feel more productive on a Windows PC but the other advantages really close the gap IMO. Going forward, I am likely to use a Macbook Pro/ Mac mini combo primarily with occasional use of my Windows Gaming PC when I really need to turn it on.

Its big loud and heavy and I frankly dont game on PC that much anymore.

Oh I totally missed that. Was that with a general add-on coupon?
