I realize there's smaller ones out there, but nothing as strong as this one. This thing clamps hard and the magnets are solid. I'm not using a mount on a plane that's turning my phone into a projectile at the first bit of turbulence.

But seriously, people were complaining about the size and I don't think you can realistically make something like this any smaller and still maintain adequate clamp strength. It folds up to not much larger than the magnetic ring. Maybe a little less depth to the body? It's impressively strong for how compact it is.
Of all the magsafe stuff I have, these magnets are the strongest.

I've been using this one for a couple of years on flights and it's thinner. Instead of clamping the edge of the table, it goes on top of the closed table, squeezed between the table and seat back. I think the limit is it needs the Magsafe ring plus two hinged segments, and it's better if the segments are thin so they can squeeze into the gap. https://a.co/d/5RcJ401
